Arrested to Arrested Development: 122 - Let 'em Eat Cake

"Don't you worry... It'll take a lot more than a heart attack to kill that old bear... [weeps] Old bear! ... He likes the honey!"
The Bluth family has a hard time watching their carbs

And so we come to an end of our first season of Arrested Development and they couldn't have gone out in style any better.

Essentially, after the Bluth family is caught in a previous scandal with Sadaam Hussein (a recurring mentioned figure on this show), Papa Bluth is to be given a polygraph which ultimately leads to a plot to flee the country and start a new life.

Here are the highlights:

  • Lindsay gets involved with beads.
  • Gob mistakes her for saying "Bees!"
  • In which Gob attempting to start a bee/honey business would become a recurring gag on the show.
We got a first look at exclusive footage of Kitty claiming Papa Bluth promised she could be head of the company as well as exclusive footage of Tobias and Lindsay.

"We had some great times."

Tobias' previous book does well with the  gay community...

...Even though at the public book reading, Tobias changing all the feminine terms to masculine for "effective" purposes, turning all the "she"s into "he"s might have been the worst idea since Linday tried to invent "Dip-A-Pet."

George Michael starts seeing this girl a lot...

...Which makes Maeby jealous in a throwback to the pilot...

...And maeby a new member of the family will find a new flame for their cousin...

But of course George Michael Sr. was in the spotlight, seeing as this was the season finale, we had to wrap up his prison-story somehow, even if it did result in this awful man's final attempt at a scheme to live his own life.

We realize Sadaam's model home seems awfully familiar, tracing steps back to the Bluth family as not only George Michael Sr. is a crook who builds homes but that the Bluth family home looks eerily similar, down to the very furniture that falls apart. Michael did recall, after all, papa Bluth referring to some "light treason," that could cause the family some danger.
A great highlight, just to shed further light really on what terrible people the Bluth parents are, George Michael Sr. fakes a heart attack during his polygraph to get out of it, but before he can, they ask him questions and George Michael Sr. is outraged and uncomfortable, yelling "I love my country!" as the needle comically scribbles violently.

And so, in an unexpected but not-ongoing turn of events, GM Sr. falls to a heart attack which naturally brings the Bluth family weeping together making them once again realize the importance of family, a lesson being taught since the pilot and the main grounds for this witty show.

And for one final twist of events, we get our first hints at the awfully literal miscommunication from the doctor...

Dr. Fishman: "We lost him. He just... got away from us. I’m sorry."
Michael: "Can we go in there?"
Dr. Fishman: "If you want... Not a lot to see."

Narrator: And that’s when the family realized that George Sr. wasn’t dead, but was fleeing the country that he loved so very much.
Michael: Pack your bags.

And on the next Arrested Development...
